Europe Region | Webinar on demand! The Cancer Game Changer: challenge trial proves that exercise is medicine

The Europe Region of World Physiotherapy held a webinar to highlight the outcomes and implications of the Challenge Trial.

Following the recent publication of the Challenge Trial (Colon Health and Lifelong Exercise Change), the Cancer Working Group of the Europe Region of World Physiotherapy organised a webinar analysing the study and evaluating the significance of its findings.

The event, which took place on Tuesday 25 November 2025, grabbed the attention of more than 300 physiotherapists all over the world.

If you were unable to attend or would like to watch it again, the recording is now available on our YouTube channel!

The webinar presented the Challenge Trial, its results, and the clinical implications for cancer care. A landmark conducted in patients with stage III or high-risk stage II colon cancer who had undergone surgery and completed adjuvant chemotherapy.

The Challenge Trial demonstrated that structured exercise significantly reduces the risk of colon cancer recurrence and improves disease-free survival, with benefits comparable to those of some pharmacological treatments.

These results, published in the prestigious New England Medicine Journal (NEMJ), confirm exercise as a true form of medicine in cancer care.

The webinar reinforced the central role of physiotherapists in delivering evidence-based exercise interventions across the cancer care continuum.
